Special Visit to the Exhibition "Like Home"

A special Saturday tour at the Liebling House offering an exploration of modernist architecture and preservation through Martin Wiesok’s solo exhibition, Like a House. The exhibition dismantles and reassembles the original Frankfurt Kitchen displayed in the building, connecting built history with an artistic process that raises questions about home, memory, time, and traces of the past as they are present in material.

What remains of the essence of a home when its original purpose—as a residence for immigrants from Germany—has changed? You are invited to a special tour focusing on the building, the permanent exhibition, Martin Wiesok’s solo exhibition Like a House, currently displayed in the Project Room, and the original Frankfurt Kitchen that inspired the work. The tour offers a broad view of the entire structure, designed in 1936 by architect Dov Karmi, and examines how Tel Aviv’s modernist architecture continues to resonate, change, and be reinterpreted through art.

We will visit the historical permanent exhibition space and then continue to the Project Room, its open-ended extension, where Wiesok’s solo exhibition Like a House is currently displayed. We will examine the installation he created in an attempt to trace the historic kitchen of the Liebling House. The kitchen, considered a milestone in the history of modern architecture and domestic efficiency, became for Wiesok a focus of material and emotional research. Through concrete casts and a large-scale collage composed of dozens of photographs, the exhibition invites us to look anew at signs of time and imperfections, and to see them as openings for imagination and memories of what was and is no longer. The tour will conclude in the original Frankfurt Kitchen, located on the building’s second floor—a unique space that is the only part of the building to have survived intact from its previous incarnation in the 1930s.
