An evening about graffiti, protest, and the politicization of urban space at Beit Liebling in Tel Aviv. October 7, 2023 onward: a lecture, a Hyde Park-style public forum, and communal singing.
What do graffiti on the walls, parties at the club, illuminated (and darkened) streets, and city maps reveal to us? An evening on the rooftop during which we will dive into the graffiti battles in Florentin since the beginning of the war; we will talk about the struggle to dance, protest, disrupt, illuminate, darken, disrupt, and leave a mark on the city. The ticket includes one drink, or until supplies run out.
Over the years, thousands of protesters have taken to the streets in Israel. Many of them carried signs, some handwritten. The crowds chanted, waved slogans, confronted one another—and the public space filled with signs, stickers, and inscriptions. But they are not the only signs of resistance. You are invited to an evening that seeks to open our eyes to the politicization of urban space.
The event will begin with a lecture by Tzipi Kaminski, in which we will take a close look at the graffiti battles in the Florentin neighborhood since October 7, 2023—and reveal, through the layers of paint, the rift in Israeli society. Together, we will talk about the walls surrounding us in the city, covered in difficult texts that have already become invisible to us.
We will then move on to a Hyde Park featuring artists and activists who will speak about urban phenomena that do not necessarily appear political at first glance, and that require us to take a second look. Seven minutes each—and audience members are also invited to participate. Featuring Omer Shizaf, Oz Zaluf, Stav Aksenfeld, and Roy Gordon.
To conclude, we will move on to drinks and communal singing of songs of peace and hope. On keyboards: Adar Ben Ezra.
