The local elections are on the horizon, and the long-serving, authoritarian mayor, Moshe Schwartzman, is worried that no candidate dares to run against him. Without an opponent, there is no campaign—and without a campaign, the donors’ wallets remain closed. Besides, people might start calling him a dictator, whereas democracy is his guiding light.
So what can be done?
To create the appearance of a fair election, they must find a fake candidate—someone “whose own family would be the only ones to vote for her, and even they would hesitate first.” When the cleaning lady enters the office and starts cleaning, it is clear to everyone that the perfect candidate has been found.
Her name is Ilana. And she is here to stay!
