A documentary-musical investigative play about children who moved between homes, families, and nationalities, at Tmu-na Theatre in Tel Aviv. The performance explores identity, belonging, and family.
Ronit and Joseph were foster parents to a stateless child in Israel, until she was returned to her biological mother and emigrated with her to Canada. The couple invite key figures from their family, alongside animals from The Jungle Book, to a musical documentary investigation-performance about children who moved between homes, families, and nationalities. The multigenerational autobiographical testimonies intertwine, exposing how society and the state handle questions relating to the well-being of the child, society, and nation, while offering a range of perspectives on concepts such as identity, belonging, and family.
Directed by Joseph Sprinzak | Artistic accompaniment: Marit Ben Israel | Written and composed by Ronit Cano and Joseph Sprinzak | Additional texts: Jacques Cano, Aryeh Leible Sherid | Live music and musical consulting: Guy Sharaf | Props, video, and poster design: Hila Pleskes | Lighting: Rotem Elroy | Thanks: Yonatan Levy, Hadas Gartman, Yoav Gershon | Special thanks to our children, Lulu and Yochai
The performance is a kind of intimate ceremony or farewell ritual, serving as an antithesis to the way the system and the state relate to a complex human situation. A personal, private story, interwoven with the family history of three generations, offering multiple perspectives on the well-being of the child, society, and nation.
Supported by the Ministry of Culture and Sport, the Mifal HaPais Council for Culture and Arts, and the Center for Experimental Theater (MATAN)—a joint project of the Yehoshua Rabinovich Foundation for the Arts, Tel Aviv (nonprofit), and the Leon Recanati Foundation.
