A play about the Lupo family and their relationship with Mattia, at Tmu-na Theater in Tel Aviv. The performance explores memory, mourning, and the emotional impact of the past on future generations.
The living Lupo family goes to visit the dead Lupo family at the cemetery and presents “The Guide”: Do the dead leave us signs? Do they acquire godlike powers? Do they watch over us? Can we ask things of them? Do we need to report the events of our lives to them, or do they see them on their own? Do they have feelings? Can we offend them? Can they be hurt or disappointed? Rejoice?
“...Relationships after death are a strange matter, and one that has certainly not been studied enough. Most people I meet can talk for hours about their relationships with living people, examining and delving into them, but the moment someone dies, they stop investigating what is now happening in their relationship. Or at the very least, they hardly talk about it. And anyone who has lost someone knows that a great deal happens and continues to happen.”

Whether we believe in reincarnation, life after death, angels, or that there is nothing—absolute emptiness, a bagel hole… what is certain is that there are relationships. There are words we did not have time to say, sentences etched into memory, and conversations that continue to exist. In this performance, the Lupo family encounters its various relationships with its dead. Its purpose is to explore the radioactive soil on which a family grows and reveal how the emotional radiation of past events sends out roots and reaches the lives of future generations, how it affects family dynamics, and to try to understand how we inherit, preserve, and process the materials of what is present but not necessarily known.
