Winter Funerals — A Sad Comedy by Hanoch Levin
One of Hanoch Levin’s wittiest and most biting comedies, accompanied by timeless love songs. Lachek’s mother has died. He sets out to inform the relatives and arrange a dignified funeral. They, however, are busy preparing for the wedding of their younger daughter, Volutsia, which is to take place the very next evening. Both sides understand clearly: the wedding and the funeral cannot take place at the same time. But how can they “throw away” four hundred guests and eight hundred chickens ordered for the celebration—just for the sake of a funeral? Thus begins a mad, hilarious chase full of unexpected twists: the family does everything possible to avoid the news of the death that desperate Lachek is trying to tell them.
