The play “Penguin” — a one-man show by Alon Fridman about a writer and a penguin. Duration: 1 hour.
A one-man show by Alon Friedman
Winner of the Theatronetto 2026 Award
Victor is a lonely, unsuccessful writer, an inconspicuous man whom nobody needs. He lives in a shabby apartment with his only friend—a penguin named Misha. One day, Victor receives an offer that is impossible to refuse: for a substantial fee, he is to write obituaries for a newspaper about people who are still alive. But soon, a highly unexpected pattern emerges: everyone Victor writes about dies.
A bitter and funny, touching and strange story about cozy loneliness in a world where the mafia, politicians, the media, art, death, and penguins are bizarrely intertwined.
Penguin is a free stage adaptation of Andrey Kurkov’s novel Death of an Outsider (Death and the Penguin).
Stage rights by Diogenes Verlag AG Zürich.
