Keren’s songs open into movement and imagery in a gala concert of dance and music constructed as one cohesive story.
In Diamonds, Miriam Engel creates a new stage adaptation of Aya Korem’s musical world, in collaboration with festival artists from around the globe. Korem’s work contains a distinct Israeli voice, both in her original songs and in the adaptations and translations through which she gives texts and music new life and relevance here and now. Her body of work combines original writing and composition, arrangements, and collaborations, engaging in dialogue with major creators including Natan Alterman and Leonard Cohen. The dance encounters the songs through the culture, place, and artistic language from which each artist comes, and the meeting between Korem’s Israeli voice and the diverse perspectives of the festival artists is woven into a vivid, virtuosic, large-scale stage work.
The closing evening is a festival tradition that has become a unique signature of JISDF. Each year, Engel invites an acclaimed Israeli musical creator to develop an original production in collaboration with the festival artists, creating a new and one-of-a-kind show through this encounter. This year, the collaboration with Aya Korem brings to the stage an evening of music, dance, and storytelling, created entirely especially for the festival and for audiences who love both music and dance.
