The Theater in Space Festival invites you to the performance “Don’t Be Fossils! Open Your Mind and Discover How Open-Minded We Are!” The unique actors of The Other Theater invite you to take a peek and see that the outside does not always reflect what is inside.
“Open Mind” is an outdoor performance featuring three rotating actors from AKIM’s Other Theater. The performance asks viewers to open their minds, look at the world from a new perspective, and accept those who are different. We will reveal the thoughts and abilities in the minds of our actors, who represent people with intellectual disabilities. AKIM’s members are characterized by a broad worldview and openness; they go with the flow, are creative, experiment with new ideas, are always ready to learn, and spread unconditional love to everyone around them.
At first glance, the performance appears to be three large stone head sculptures inspired by a neutral white mask. But when a viewer gives a sculpture a coin, music begins, the heads open, and the actors emerge in a visually impressive and colorful display, performing activities that represent them: dancing, reading a book, playing music, cooking, mime, magic tricks, singing, handing out gifts, blowing kisses, and more.
