A nocturnal journey-performance with Ehud Banai and Yondav Kaplon will take place on September 1, 2026, at Mishkenot Sha’ananim in Jerusalem. A conversation, singing, and music inspired by the stories of the Zohar.
The sermons and legends in the Zohar almost always take place “while they were walking.” The sages of the Zohar set out to study Torah with an elderly teacher, or to visit a sick friend, and more than once they eventually arrive at a cave, where their teacher, Rabbi Shimon, awaits them.
In three gatherings leading up to the High Holy Days, Ehud Banai and Yונדב קפלון set out on a nighttime journey through the paths of the Zohar’s stories, toward the dawn breaking through the darkness. They walk together while talking, singing, and playing music, with a sense of shared destiny.
A series that sprouted from a chance encounter (or perhaps not) between the two, during an artists’ residency—room next to room—at Mishkenot Sha’ananim, leading to a shared journey along the paths of Mount Zion and through the pages of study.
