Scales: Masterclass for Musicians

Ahead of the Tishrei holidays, we invite musicians to three writing and composition sessions—learning and creative work—in a master class led by Maya Belsitzman and Shay Gillis. After a long period of upheaval and transitions, we will seek to create new points of connection between words and sounds. We will write and compose these days, and the hope for different days.

The workshop is intended for creative musicians experienced in composition, singing, and instrumental accompaniment | Applicants are asked to complete a suitability questionnaire and submit previous work | Participation in the workshop is conditional on a commitment to attend all three sessions in full.

At the point of transition between one year and the next, a window opens for us through which we can pause and contemplate the reality of our lives and the changes taking shape within us. This year, we will dedicate “Elul Time” to looking inward and outward, and to moving together on the threshold of home—back and forth—between past and future, and between dismantling and reassembling and rebuilding.

In the “Elul Time” learning and creative workshops, we will engage in studying texts, writing, music, photography, and artistic creation, as well as practicing breath and body–mind presence. You are invited to a profound and creative space where we will gather the fragments of this period and try to create from them connection, hope, a sense of place, and meaning as we approach the coming new year.
