A Bitter and Funny Comedy

A magnifying glass on the difficulties of modern life and the universal search for happiness.

It’s Not Easy to Be Happy When Life Is Kind of Shitty is a comedy by Rudy Milstein that follows five friends—Nora, Jonathan, Jean, Maxim, and Timothy—whose lives are in disarray. The play, which won two Molière Awards, explores their existential anxiety, their crumbling romantic relationships, and their desperate search for happiness through a series of comical and moving situations. With humor and precision, the play analyzes the anxieties and failures of our generation, questioning how difficult it is to find happiness in a world governed by fear, loneliness, and control.

Elad Theatre is one of the most interesting creative theatres in Israel’s contemporary cultural landscape. It consists of actors and creators who left successful careers in central Israel and moved with their families to Eilat and the Eilot Region, with the goal of turning Israel’s southernmost tip into a groundbreaking cultural center. The remote region provides them with fertile ground for exploring the boundaries of the medium and developing new artistic languages.
