A retrospective exhibition of Alex Levac at the Tel Aviv Museum of Art presents over 200 photographs, from his student years through his return to Israel in 1981.
From his student years in London, through his visits to Brazil and the Amazon, to his return to Israel in 1981, the exhibition traces the development of Libek’s distinctive language, which pushed the boundaries of documentary and humanist photography.
For more than four decades, Libek has documented both defining moments and the daily routine of life on the street. Moving between horror and humor, and between criticism and empathy, he walks the fine line between testimony and art. The more than 200 photographs presented in this retrospective, which spans the Eyal Ofer Pavilion, reveal Israel’s multilayered society and serve as a prophecy of issues at the forefront of contemporary discourse about Israel and within it.
