Seams of the Shell: Iris Kadishman

Iris Kadishman’s exhibition creates a different language in the seams of porcelain fragments. She creates vessels and applies design through spontaneous flow and a somewhat naïve spirit. Her work is expressed in a wondrous fusion of the mysterious textures of the material and its minute shells. Her gentle illustrations emerge like shadows in shades of blue, pink, and green, incorporating images and delicate golden lines.

The objects’ curvature and fragility underscore, in a marvelous dialogue, porcelain’s refined touch and challenging symbolism. This is an intriguing and unexpected encounter with expressions of a personal and human mosaic, examining the medium through the artist’s sensations as she seeks to leave her mark on the material.

The works of Ben Kadishman are found in the background of Iris Kadishman’s works: forms and shadows are suggested through sensations that internalize a withdrawal into the body and beyond it. His experiences are constructed through hovering and a sensuality that spills into the shading between dark patches, moving toward the luminous transparency of pieces of light.
