Cameri Theatre: "Ringo"

A wild comic musical by Yaron Edelstein, directed by Amit Apta, about love and intimacy, the eternal struggle between reason and passion, and politics sneaking into our underwear. The musical Ringo is the first production of “The Cameri | New Generation,” the young company of the Cameri Theatre.

A few minutes after Danny Dingot proposes to Mika, he discovers that his penis has disappeared. At the same time, his organ—“Ringo”—is already celebrating its independence throughout the city.

“Ringo is a lighthearted and witty comedy, yet also thought-provoking, and above all, an expression of a human and artistic yearning for a more humane world, equality, and love—reminiscent of great musicals such as Hair. Here, the staging deliberately drew inspiration from Israeli series such as Lo Kolel Sherut, and indeed, Israeli-ness is at the center.” / Nano Shabtai, Haaretz

“Look, I know life is unbearably difficult right now, everything is terrible—what does theatre have to do with it? But anyone who nevertheless wants to combine total escapism with political satire, come to the Cameri. We’ll do everything we can to restore your faith in this ‘archaic,’ ‘outdated’ art form. After all, we’re young now.” / Tom Hodorov, Time Out (guest column)
