A new Israeli theater play about five teenagers hospitalized in a mental health center who create a play together. At Gesher Theater, Tel Aviv.
A new Israeli play — at the “Orot” Mental Health Center, five teenagers are hospitalized. They sleep together, eat together, and create a play together—about the psyche, of course. The play offers a glimpse into the locked ward and the lives of the medical staff, the teenagers, and their parents, but it is also the story of us all, because these children, who come from every sector and every socioeconomic background, are all our children.
“Like Me” offers a glimpse into the locked ward and the lives of the medical staff, the teenagers, and their parents, but it is also the story of us all, because these children, who come from every sector and every socioeconomic background, are all our children. They are us, only at a different volume, and the play is intended for anyone with a soul. It deals with the healing power of theater, in the hope of raising the level of compassion, which is always at risk of declining. The play was created following visits to “Shahaf” School and the “Abarbanel” Mental Health Center, but any resemblance between the characters and events in the play and reality is purely coincidental.
