Descriptiontranslated from Hebrew (original)
Screening of the documentary film Shalom and a meeting with the director, Meital Tzvi’eli
The Biblical Zoo in Jerusalem attracts hundreds of thousands of Israelis and Palestinians, religious and secular. The story unfolds through Shalom the rhinoceros and his caretakers: Roshdi Alyan, a Palestinian–Israeli Muslim, and Gilad Moshe, an Israeli Jew. A dispute over Shalom’s euthanasia exposes the differences between them, while the war that breaks out in Gaza after October 7 sharpens the fundamental questions: What is captivity? What is freedom? And why is the only alternative life together in peace?
The film participated in the Israeli Competition of the 2026 Docaviv Festival, where it won two awards: the Jury Award and the Cinematography Award.
