The Carmel Market began as a fruit and vegetable market, but today it is a bustling culinary powerhouse offering authentic flavors and innovative interpretations. On the tour, you’ll learn about the market’s history, its influence on Tel Aviv culture, and its place in today’s gastronomic scene. You’ll discover the shop opened by two mothers who decided to sell real food “in boxes” to Tel Aviv’s singles who were tired of sushi; the fish restaurant that makes the tastiest fish and chips in the country from fresh fish delivered straight from Jaffa Port; and the famous stall serving burekas known for their yellow egg yolk dripping into the pita and the crispy cigar pastry wrapped around them. We’ll see the old, legendary gate of the vegetable market and find out who the stallholder is that everyone calls “In’al HaOlam.”
