How is a work of art born? How do an idea and material take shape? And what is our role—the audience—in all of this? Join us for a fascinating session combining an interactive tour of the exhibition, exploring the wondrous process of creation, with a creative workshop. For ages 6–10.
This month saw the opening of the third edition of the Tel Aviv Biennale of Arts and Design, one of the leading and most influential events in Israel’s craft and design scene. The Biennale will take place at Muza, Eretz Israel Museum, Tel Aviv, under the theme “Deeds and Days,” inspired by Hesiod’s epic poem.
The theme seeks to examine the concept of work in its broadest sense: not only as labor and artistic creation, but also as action, initiative, and moral responsibility—concepts with profound relevance to the social, cultural, and environmental reality of the present day.
More than 200 creators will present their work at the Biennale. More than 1,500 proposals were submitted to the selection committee, from which projects representing a broad range of craft and design fields were chosen: ceramics, glass, textiles, paper and jewelry, alongside industrial design, fashion design, visual communication, architecture, video, and performative practices. The selection highlights quality, innovation, and diversity, and reflects a current portrait of the local craft and design scene.
Many of the works combine tradition and innovation through experimental and process-oriented approaches, with a particular focus on cultural heritage, environmental sustainability, and contemporary material thinking. The Biennale offers a multidisciplinary, research-based, and open perspective on processes of creation, work, and material.
The museum’s various pavilions will feature unique collaborative projects between the museum’s curators and invited creators, who will respond to the museum’s collections and weave new connections between the past and the present.
During the months of the Biennale, three academic incubators in different design fields will be presented. They will operate one after another, offering the public a glimpse behind the scenes of thought, research, and work processes. Alongside the exhibitions, the Biennale will be accompanied by a catalog of essays, a blog and digital content, an audio guide, and an extensive public program including workshops, lectures, gallery talks, meetings with artists, multidisciplinary events, performances, an international conference, and participatory activities for the general public, including at Jack Joseph and Morton Mandel Park (“The Orchard”). The Biennale serves as a central platform for exposure, engagement, and broad cultural influence, and invites partners who share a commitment to creativity, society, and sustainability.
