The meetings will focus on one of the exhibition’s central themes—the home—and the meanings it has acquired following the events of October 7 and the war: a place of belonging, memory, and security, but also a space that has been damaged, abandoned, and must be rebuilt.
The third biennial was born out of a reality of rupture. Work on the exhibition took place in the shadow of the war and its ongoing consequences. Against this backdrop, the current exhibition, under the theme “Deeds and Days,” seeks to contemplate the power of material making: the ability to return to craft, to material, and to the work of the hand as means of holding on, persevering, and rebuilding. Many of the works presented in the biennial address, directly or indirectly, the question of how to continue creating and acting after the familiar and stable have been shaken. They give expression to personal and collective experiences of loss, trauma, and displacement, while also offering gestures of repair, continuity, and rehabilitation. Not a repair that erases the rupture, but one that acknowledges it and seeks to rise from it.
