School of Sustainability: Foraging for Medicinal Plants

As part of the Autumn Urban Nature Month events: Foraging for medicinal plants for the whole family. The workshop is part of the first-anniversary celebrations of the young educational food forest of the School of Sustainability at the Farm, in collaboration with Ganei Yehoshua. Guided by Sharon Solomon. Ages 4 and up.

Family Medicinal Plant Tour

We will set out on an experiential tour of the agricultural farm, get to know the medicinal plants growing there through our senses, and learn about their uses in the kitchen and home medicine. We will smell, taste, and forage according to the season. We will taste various herbal infusions, become familiar with different flavors and aromas, learn about different methods of drying and preserving medicinal plants, and each participant will prepare a personal sachet of an herbal blend for infusion to take home. The tour is intended for children and parents and offers an experiential introduction to plants through smell, taste, touch, and shared hands-on activity.

Sharon Solomon is a foraging and sustainability guide, clinical herbalist, and instructor in establishing food gardens and ecological orchards. For years, she has worked to connect people with the wild plants, medicinal plants, and food around us.

The tour is part of the first-anniversary celebrations of the young educational food forest of the School of Sustainability at the Farm, in collaboration with Ganei Yehoshua, and part of the Autumn Urban Nature Month events, themed around olive harvests throughout the city.

Entrance to the farm is through the dirt parking lot (free of charge).

For those arriving by car, the entrance is to the dirt path opposite 74 Rokach Street (Ramat Gan). Drive straight and then turn left. You can arrive on foot or by bicycle via the park paths.
