The neighborhood was founded in 1954 as a flagship neighborhood celebrating the strength of the people in young Israel and in Ramat Gan, which had just been officially recognized as a city and the mother of Israel (1950). The mayor at the time, Avraham Krinitzi, envisioned a carefully planned residential neighborhood surrounded by greenery along the banks of the Yarkon River. Krinitzi created a revolutionary marketing mix for its time, attracting mainly military officers, security personnel, Knesset members, writers, thinkers, artists and high-ranking officials to live there.
Even today, the Veteran Housing project carries the scent of a deep-rooted Israeli character that has survived alongside modernity and change. The people who lived, acted, wrote, fought, strove, suffered, planned and created there are fascinating.
This time we will follow Private Siman Tov Gana, a disabled war hero, Yehuda Harel, a Palmach fighter, Lieutenant Amir Blahnikov, Captain Shamai Kaplan, another war hero, Lieutenant David Tamir Katznelson, and Corporal Shlomo Balaban, decorated with the Medal of Honor. We will enter the house of Aba Ahimeir and end at the foot of Mount Napoleon. The tour starts at the Underground Memorial, which carries a message of unity, across the Abba Hillel Ben-Gurion corner, along the Yarkon River (opposite the B.S.R. Towers).
