Inspired by the life story of Laila Mourad
Laila Mourad was a Jewish super‑star in Egypt during the golden age of Pharaoh Farouk. Her story takes us back to the era of the Arab Friday cinema, with sweet nostalgia, laughter, and delight. Laila Mourad, a beloved film star and singer, stays at home refusing to go out or talk to anyone. The peace with Israel is born – and the phones start ringing. After being abandoned by Egypt, her audience and even her family, she is back in the spotlight. One particularly stubborn interviewer manages to touch her heart – and she opens up.
She travels back in time: to childhood, to movies, loves, and pain. Step by step, the story unfolds: fame, fracture, and the choices that led her to the end. Between memories and songs we are swept with her to the glittering Cairo of the ’50s: a world of magic, cinema, music, and a woman who sings her heart to the world. In the end – when nothing is left to hide – the heart settles, and, like a beloved song, she is reborn. 🌹
