Nature Explorers: A New Adventure Club for Children in Atlit and the Surrounding Area!

About the Activity

Nature is everything around us—the scent in the air after the rain, a rock that has not moved for millions of years, and birds migrating to warm, distant lands. We invite your children to discover this wondrous world, right beneath our noses (or above them).

In our nature club, we will learn together that every small patch of land is an entire world—a playground and a life lesson at the same time. And the best way to do this? Through exploration, observation, hands-on experience, and personal discovery.

The sessions take place once a week on a fixed day. Throughout the year, your children will become trackers, nature researchers, and artists; experience exciting adventures; and acquire unique skills.

When and Where Does It Take Place?

The club takes place once a week, on Mondays from 16:00–17:30, in Atlit, in the area of Nahal Oren, currently being renewed by the Carmel Drainage and Streams Authority, Limor Grove, or another nature site in the community.

Our nearby surroundings include a eucalyptus grove, Horvat Karta, Nahal Oren, the salt evaporation ponds, and the seashore—a spectacular variety of settings for adventures!

The club will include approximately 28 sessions during the year, led by a permanent, experienced, and professional instructor.

What Will We Do in the Club?

Survival and Early Humans: We will learn the fire cycle—how to light a fire safely and responsibly; build shelters from branches and natural materials; and explore basic gathering methods to understand how much wisdom and cooperation are required for life in nature.

Keen Senses and the Language of the Forest: We will learn the language of birds—how to distinguish between a calm chirp and an alarm call; practice camouflage and stealth techniques that develop concentration and inner quiet; and set out on expeditions following animal signs and tracks in the field.

Art from the Earth: We will create natural paints from leaves and bark, draw with charcoal from the campfire, and make “power animals” and tools from mud—a hands-on experience connecting simple creativity, natural materials, and imagination.

Environmental Responsibility: We will explore Nahal Oren, seasonality, seasonal flow monitoring, plant and animal diversity, the Nahal Oren estuary, the Karta Nature Reserve, water flow on rainy days, and the phenomenon of flash floods. We will learn how to protect the beach and the open spaces around us.

Birdwatching: We will conduct birdwatching tours around the evaporation ponds of the Israel Salt Industries. We will learn about flamingos, Sandwich terns, and little terns; discuss bird migration; and prepare nesting boxes and bird feeders.

Seasonal Surprises: We will go on focused excursions to encounter the narcissus, “king of the swamp”; explore the story of the generous carob tree; and celebrate Tu BiShvat by planting trees and preparing gifts for nature.

This is an opportunity to give your children tools that will serve them throughout their lives: responsibility, curiosity, and a genuine connection to the world in which we live.

The number of places is limited—reserve your child’s place as soon as possible. The club will operate subject to a minimum number of registrants.

The club will take place from October 26 through June 2027.
