Parent-and-child workshop in movement, play, and creativity, held on Wednesdays in October at 16:45 at 22 Dam HaMaccabim Street. Intended for ages 2–4.
Doodleology: Parent–Child Workshop, Ages 2–4
Doodleology is a parent–child workshop focusing on the body’s spontaneous movement, graphic mark-making, and the connection between them. During the four-session workshop, we will dive into imaginary worlds, invent creations, and embark on all kinds of adventures. We will try a variety of exercises and games that will become shared dances and spectacular, colorful doodles.
At each session, we will doodle a little differently. We will always begin with a sequence of exercises to warm up the body and establish parent–child attentiveness. Then we will meet “White Tabula”—an imaginary companion who is actually a smooth, blank sheet of paper. At each session, it will be a different size and located in a different place in the space.
In the second part of each session, we will add colors to the picture and continue moving while leaving colorful traces. The colored lines will remind us of the movement that has passed and encourage us to keep creating more and more doodles with our bodies.
Before a child tells us, “I’m embarrassed,” they cling to our leg. Before a child knows how to say, “I’m frustrated,” they stomp their feet. Before they say, “They took it from me,” they pull with all their strength. The body comes before the words. But it does so quietly, and we do not always know how to listen.
In the Doodleology workshop, the body is at the center. We have an opportunity to pause and observe our children without looking through smartphone cameras, and to practice a different kind of communication based on touch, movement, play, and imagination.
Noa Zamir, workshop facilitator—creator and dance teacher, with a master’s degree and a certificate of specialization in movement analysis from Laban College in London. She moves and inspires people to move out of the belief that movement is a tool for personal expression and for creating a connection with the world, and that it has the power to move more than just the physical body.
