“I recommend that the archaeologists who come after me devote themselves to researching the cave. I am convinced that in this case they will discover that I led them to the true tomb of the kings of the House of David on Mount Zion.”
This is what Ermète Pierotti—a controversial engineer, topographer, and occasional archaeologist—wrote in 1859.
Years later, archaeologist Dr. Gabriel Barkay proposed identifying the cave and “David’s Tomb” on Mount Zion with the Garden of Uzza, the second burial estate of the last kings of Judah.
Is King David’s tomb indeed located on Mount Zion? Or does the thousand-year-old tradition have no basis in reality, as most scholars believe?
Meeting point: Yad Yitzhak Ben-Zvi – 14 Ibn Gabirol Street
Doors open: 16:30
