What dilemmas did the Judenrat face during the Holocaust, and what dilemmas did alternative community leaders—the rabbis and doctors—face as they tried to help the Jewish communities under the reign of terror?

11:00–12:30 Film Screening: “Now the Waters Are So Still” – The story of Elke (Reines) Abramowitz, followed by a discussion
Through the film, we will learn about the distinctiveness of the Holocaust of Romanian Jewry, hear about the Jewish community before the Holocaust, the challenges it faced during the Holocaust, and the return to life. We will also hear about what took place behind the scenes of the film.
