10:00–11:00 “In the Beautiful Hot Land” – Bialik in the Land of Israel: The national poet’s poems established his status even before he arrived in the country. Upon his arrival in Tel Aviv in 1924, he became the “crowned one of the city,” in the words of Marc Chagall. This lecture will explore his character, life story, and cultural legacy—from his childhood in Zhytomyr, through his years at the Volozhin yeshiva, his life in Odessa, and his settling in Tel Aviv.

11:30–12:30 “The Shortest Journey” from Kaunas to Tel Aviv: The life story of the poet Leah Goldberg and her eventful journeys in Lithuania and Germany, until she settled in Tel Aviv and Jerusalem, and the flourishing of her creative work, particularly for children, in the new country.
