A thought-provoking lecture by Yuval Abramovich on fulfilling dreams.
The List – Dreams Need to Be Shouted
Why do some people manage to fulfill their dreams time and again, while others remain for years with the same closed list, full of items that have not moved a millimeter?
Several years ago, I came across an old dream list I had written as a teenager. Instead of leaving it in a drawer, I decided to see what happens when a dream moves from the mind into the world. I created a website called “The List” and published a list of ten dreams in Hebrew and English—dreams I committed to trying to fulfill within 400 days.
Within just a few hours, the list went viral. People from the United States, Iraq, Iran (!), France, Belgium, Switzerland, Israel, and other countries were exposed to it and contacted me through social media. Some asked to help, some asked to take part, and some simply said one sentence that kept coming up again and again: “I have a list like that too, but it stays in the drawer.”
My list included dreams that sounded absurd, funny, or impossible: “To travel around Australia without spending a single dollar.” “To meet Oprah Winfrey.” “To rehabilitate a homeless person.”
It also included smaller, everyday dreams. Without planning it, I found myself embarking on a worldwide journey of fulfillment—one that became a living experiment in how dreams really work.
During this journey, I gathered profound insights about fulfilling personal and professional dreams, about fear, education, environment, and the responsibility each person has toward their own desires. These insights took shape as a book called The List – Dreams Need to Be Shouted and as the flagship lecture, which more than a million people around the world have been exposed to so far.
The lecture addresses, among others, the following questions:
“The List” is a thought-provoking lecture, but no less practical—one that stays with participants long after it ends. The list of men and women who have fulfilled dreams thanks to “The List” is enormous.
