A lecture for parents by Yuval Abramovitz on technology, independence, and parenting. It will take place at Noga Center, 7 Ben-Gurion Street, Herzliya; the date was not specified.
A question has been occupying Yuval Abramovich a great deal lately:
What is technology doing not only to our time, but also to the people we are and the parents we are?
We live in an era when it is possible to know almost at any moment where your child is, whether they arrived at their activity, and whether they read the message you sent them.
Apparently, all this should give us a sense of security, but sometimes the opposite happens. The more we can check, the more we check—and the harder it becomes to let go.
For their part, children have fewer opportunities to make mistakes, manage on their own, and discover that they are capable.
These questions led Abramovich to undertake a year-long personal experiment.
He examined what happens when we turn down the noise a little, stop responding immediately to every message, put the phone aside from time to time, and bring books, games, conversations, walks, and boredom back into our lives.
The experiment gave rise to the book and lecture “Turn Down the Gigahertz. Fewer Notifications. More Life.”
In the lecture, Abramovich shares stories, failures, discoveries, and simple tools that deal not only with technology, but also with parenting, independence, security, and our ability to trust ourselves and our children again.
This is not a lecture against technology.
It is a lecture in favor of choice, presence, a little less monitoring, and a little more life.
Fewer notifications. More life. Less monitoring. More independence. Less fear. More security.
