Urban Passover: A Creator in His Own Way

Designers, typographers, researchers, curators, and students are invited to participate in a unique conference marking the closing of the exhibition Posters and Letterforms: The Craft of Design by Pesach Ir-Shai and the official launch of the comprehensive catalogue dedicated to the fascinating work of the multidisciplinary designer and artist Pesach Ir-Shai.

The conference will include several sessions featuring leading speakers, who will guide you through Ir-Shai’s extensive and fascinating body of work—from the modern typography he created in the mid-1920s in young Tel Aviv, through his great success in Hungary, works he created during the Holocaust, and the iconic posters he created after the establishment of the state.

Following the exhibition that, for the first time, revealed Ir-Shai’s visual life’s work to Israeli audiences, approximately 60 years after his death, the conference will deepen the discussion of his unique typographic work, his concepts regarding commercial poster design, and his complex identity as a modern creator who emerged from the avant-garde movements while remaining connected to his Jewish identity, which he even regarded as a source for his visual work.

• 10:15 – First session:

• 11:40 – Second session:
  Galit Gaon (the Israeli poster), Miriam Ir-Shai (a family conversation), short film (Ir-Shai)
• 12:40 – Lunch
• 13:40 – Third session:
  Rami Salama (preservation of the collection), Ian Shrentel and Tali Liberman (catalogue design), Guy Shagi (conceptual typography)
• 15:00 – Guided tour of the exhibition with the exhibition curator, Rami Tariff
• 16:00 – Free exploration of the museum
