The very last tour of the exhibition! You are invited to a tour of the Israel Museum led by an archaeologist, focusing on the new exhibition “Comfort from the Desert: The Complete Isaiah Scroll.”
We will begin the tour with a visit to the Shrine of the Book, where the most famous scrolls discovered in the Qumran caves are displayed to the public. We will learn about the story of the Yahad sect that wrote them and discuss the content of the scrolls.
On the day of the tour, the temporary exhibition on the Complete Isaiah Scroll will be open to the public; it is expected to close soon. For the first time since 1965, the exhibition will display the complete Isaiah Scroll discovered at Qumran, which is more than 7 meters long!
We will discuss how the discovery came to light, examine the scroll’s text—which may reveal details about who wrote it and how—and learn about the process of creating scrolls in antiquity.
With the remaining time, we will visit the Israel Museum’s impressive archaeological exhibition, focusing on the Second Temple period and the classical periods.
