Nature. Animals. Cinema.
A film program about nature and animals will take place from September 23 to 27, 2026, at the Jerusalem Cinematheque. The films invite us to reflect on nature and our place within it.
What do we see when we look at nature? A breathtaking landscape, a wild world existing far from us, or a complex life system of which we are an inseparable part? This program invites us to slow our gaze and draw closer to the life teeming inside an ancient oak tree, into the depths of the ocean, to flocks of flamingos, forests and wetlands, and to the animals that share our space—and sometimes even our screen.
Observing nature is always also observing ourselves. The films in the program move between wonder and humor, curiosity and reflection, challenging the familiar boundary between the human and the wild, between the observer and the object of observation. Nature is not a backdrop for the human story, but a rich, complex, many-voiced world in which we exist and on which we depend.
This is an invitation to curiosity: to look closely at what seems familiar to us and discover just how strange, surprising and full of life it is. Sometimes all it takes is a small change in perspective for a tree, bird, cat or patch of landscape to become an entire world—and for our place within it to suddenly appear a little different as well.
