Exhibition "White Dough" | Michal Ben Ze'ev
“My work is dedicated to nature,” says artist Michal Ben Zeev. She collects pieces of wood, branches, palm leaves, and gives them new life, creating plant art objects using the papier-mâché technique.
She collects pieces of wood during her wanderings through fields, groves and along the beach, collecting the remains of trees that have been cut down, broken or washed up on the shore, and breathes new life into them. She tears, shreds and mixes paper in her kitchen, which is similar to the ancient female craft of making dough - a primordial act of maintaining life and survival. When the paper turns into a paste and hardens, it returns to its source - wood. The connection between wood and paper pulp is instantaneous and homogeneous, thus reuniting the materials in a cyclical evolution similar to the process of shamanic healing.
