Concert of Baroque instrumental music: Bach, Telemann, Fasch, and Finger. The program features ensemble works for period instruments.
In the first half of the 18th century, Baroque instrumental music reached new heights of complexity, virtuosity, and expressiveness. In concertos and sonatas, composers created bold combinations of wind, string, and keyboard instruments, building musical textures on the basis of continuous dialogue—sometimes contrasting, sometimes collaborative.
The program is centered on masterpieces by two of the greatest composers of the late Baroque: Johann Sebastian Bach’s Brandenburg Concerto No. 2, in a special arrangement for the soloists participating in the concert, and Georg Philipp Telemann’s Quartet in A minor for flute, oboe, violin, and basso continuo. Alongside these two works, the ensemble will perform rare masterpieces by their contemporaries, Johann Friedrich Fasch and Gottfried Finger, who worked in the same cultural milieu. Sonatas and quartets for flute, oboe, violin, and bassoon in various combinations, accompanied by harpsichord, will reveal the many shades of sound created through the interaction of these instruments.
Kat Debrechi — Baroque violin
Doret Florentin — flutes and artistic direction
