Carmel Hai-Bar Nature Reserve - There's a Vulture in the Sky
Activities and tours about vulture conservation at the Hai-Bar Carmel Nature Reserve, on Saturdays, October 24 and 31. An up-close encounter with vultures and educational stations.
The griffon vulture is known as the “king of birds,” but even kings have problems—and the vulture has been declared an endangered species in Israel and throughout the world! 🦅
How do we return vultures to the wild? How many eggs does a female vulture lay each year? What is a replacement egg, and what can each of us do to help ensure that vultures do not disappear?
During Vulture Month, near International Vulture Day, we invite you to meet the Carmel’s vultures up close and hear from Israel Nature and Parks Authority guides about efforts to conserve the vulture population in the face of difficulties and dangers.
During the day, you will be able to touch a vulture feather, compare your “wingspan” with that of a vulture, see the size of a vulture egg, learn how transmitters are used to track vultures, and, of course, see vultures up close in the acclimatization aviaries.
When: Saturdays, October 24 and 31. Tours will depart at 10:00, 12:00, and 14:00.
Information stations about vultures will operate every hour on the hour at 11:00, 12:00, 13:00, 14:00, and 15:00.
