A restoration project with the families of the abducted
The genre of photo restorations usually deals with the long time that has passed between the original and the restoration, and the feeling of nostalgia that arises when the eye searches for similarities and differences between the past and the present.
In this series, the time that has passed between the original photograph and the restoration is very short, highlighting a reality that has been turned upside down in an instant and changed beyond recognition. The series visually conveys the painful absence of those who were abducted and have not yet returned, the suffering of the people who remained or were released, and the noticeable changes in their faces and bodies. The abrupt change that has occurred in the familiar and everyday reality and the small family moments that emerge from the photographs reinforce the feeling of lack and emptiness left by those who were abducted.
The people who were abducted from their homes are still there, in Gaza. And they are waiting for us to give them back.
Sharon Dray, photographer, partner of Lior, whose father, Chaim Pri, was kidnapped from his home in Kibbutz Nir Oz and is still in captivity.
