A hike to the sources of the Taninim River will take place on October 17 at Mei Kedem. The program includes 11 km of nature, an underground aqueduct, springs, and swimming.
Hi everyone!
So, are you ready to go on a hike that has everything? A river, cool springs, an underground Roman aqueduct, water, beautiful views, a bit of adventure and, of course, fascinating stories.
On Saturday, October 17, we’re heading to the sources of the Taninim River!
We’ll begin our route near the community of Amikam and make our way through the forest toward Mei Kedem. First, we’ll try to understand how, almost 2,000 years ago, the Romans managed to transport huge quantities of water over dozens of kilometers to Caesarea—without electricity, pumps or modern technology.
Then we’ll stop merely talking about history, take our flashlights and climb right inside it.
We’ll walk through an ancient underground aqueduct, directly through the water and beneath the ground, along a structure built almost 2,000 years ago. In my opinion, this is one of those cases when history is much more interesting to experience firsthand than to read about in books.
After Mei Kedem, we’ll continue along the sources of the Taninim River. Here there will be more nature and water. We’ll find springs, stop beside them and, of course, swim.
Along the way, we’ll reach the unusual old Ein Sindiana oil press and try to understand what it was doing here and what life in these places once looked like.
We’ll take a long break near Ein Avni’el. We’ll bring out our traditional tea, coffee and cakes, rest a little and hold a short seminar on the subject of “Values.” We’ll talk about what is truly important to us, where our values come from in the first place, and whether our lives and actions always reflect them.
Then we’ll reach an old military road and continue toward our cars. But of course, we’re not simply going to walk straight to the finish. There will be more stops, springs and opportunities to swim along the way.
In total, we’ll cover 11 kilometers of nature, water, history, conversation and a small adventure.
3 liters of water per person, a hat, sunscreen, comfortable clothing and shoes, a flashlight, clothing and shoes that you don’t mind getting wet, a towel and a snack, if desired.
Registration is open until Thursday evening so that we can organize the logistics properly.
Registration and questions via WhatsApp: 053-952-7992, Zhenya.
See you on October 17!
We’ll walk through water, climb underground, swim in springs, drink tea and once again prove to ourselves that sometimes all you need for a great Saturday is comfortable shoes, a backpack and the desire to go somewhere.
