Rooks and pelicans have arrived!
Hike for pelicans and other birds: meet at 6:30 or 8:00 at Ma'ayan Tzvi, a 15-km route to HaBonim. Ends around 16:00–17:00.
October is the season of migratory birds. Hoping to catch the pelicans’ migration, I’m planning to walk along the ponds and the sea near Zikhron Ya’akov. The pelicans usually stay with us for a couple of weeks and then continue their journey south.
Every night, the pelicans spend the night in shallow water—where predators cannot reach them. Then they fly off to feed along the coast.
The plan is to photograph flocks of pelicans at sunrise, at 6:30 a.m. At 8:00 a.m., we will set out on a 15 km route from Ma’ayan Tzvi to Moshav HaBonim. Along the way, we will visit ponds where flamingos and black storks rest. I also hope to catch the star lilies in bloom.
Those who wish may arrive at 6:30 or 8:00 a.m. The route will end around 4–5 p.m.

Please bring water, a snack, and hiking shoes. There may be an opportunity to swim.

The guide’s services are “conditionally free.” As is customary at living-room concerts, at the end of the hike everyone may put into the hat whatever amount they feel is appropriate. The organizer’s cost for the hike is approximately 1,000 shekels, plus a great deal of time. Your donations make it possible to continue the project and prepare new routes. People from all kinds of backgrounds join the hikes—from Masa participants and new immigrants to seasoned programmers. For this reason, we try not to specify an amount. The main thing is for all participants to feel comfortable.
