The chamber musical-theatrical performance featuring Baroque music will be presented by the “Mezzo” ensemble and Alon Harari.
Baroque opera existed not only on major stages. At courts, in private salons, and in small theaters, more intimate and flexible forms of musical theater emerged, organically interweaving vocal and instrumental music, dance, and dramatic action.
In England, such performances were often called masque or semi-opera: a spoken plot was combined with arias, choral episodes, dances, and instrumental interludes. Inspired by this tradition, the Mezzo Ensemble and countertenor Alon Harari create their own semi-opera.
A plot inspired by the world of myths and magical tales will provide the dramatic framework for vocal and instrumental works from the Baroque era. Arias, dance numbers, and instrumental pieces originally created for different compositions will merge into a new narrative, acquiring unexpected dramatic meaning.
The result will be an intimate musical-theatrical performance in which Baroque music meets an original story created especially for this program.
