Gesher Theatre Revives "Village"
Gesher Theatre is reviving the acclaimed play "Village," winner of the Zionism Prize, by Joshua Sobul. Starring Israel (Sasha) Demidov in the lead role.
"Village," recipient of the Minister of Culture and Sports Prize for Zionism in 2014, reflects the history of the Zionist vision and the establishment of the State, thereby embodying the prize's objectives in the field of Zionism.
The story of the residents of a village in Eretz Israel in the 1940s as experienced by Yossi, a naive boy who never grew up—an eternal child. Daily life and personal matters occupy souls, while in the background events of World War II pass by: the threat of German invasion, the Holocaust, the declaration of statehood, and the War of Independence. The play unfolds with warmth and affection, humor and sadness, in a Land of Israel where humanity, despite its fate, emerges victorious.
Duration: Two hours and twenty minutes, including intermission.
The production is dedicated to the memory of its creators and actors who have passed: Nelly Gusheva, Michael Asinovsky, Yevgeny Gamburg, Klim Kamenko, Roland Khailovský, Lena Laskin, Grigory Lyampa, Esther Peker, and Vladimir Khalimsky.
