The epic romantic drama unfolds in New York in the post-war years. A young Jew, a Holocaust survivor, attempts to come to terms with the horrors of the past, finding solace in relationships with two women who are madly in love with him. One is a Polish peasant woman who saved his life during the persecutions; the other is a Jewish girl, sensual and emotional, who is going through a divorce. When his ex-wife, previously thought dead, unexpectedly appears in New York, the love triangle intensifies, and the choice he must make becomes truly dramatic and unpredictable.
