In this two-part lecture series, we will embark on a journey into one of the universe’s most mysterious phenomena—from the physics behind black holes to the discoveries that proved their existence. We will meet Stephen Hawking, explore paradoxes that challenge what we know about reality, gravitational waves, a historic photograph, and Nobel Prizes that changed the way we understand the universe.

What is a black hole, why can’t even light escape from it, and what is Hawking radiation? We will learn about the “black hole war,” the information paradox, and the surprising idea that our universe may be a kind of hologram—and discover which of these major questions remain unsolved.

How did scientists prove that black holes really exist—and even photograph one? We will discover how gravitational waves enabled us to “listen” to black hole collisions, what we know about the massive black hole at the center of the Milky Way, and which discoveries in the field earned scientists Nobel Prizes.
Prof. Elam Gross—a physicist and researcher at the Weizmann Institute of Science, and one of Israel’s leading physicists. He was among the leaders of the search for the Higgs boson in the ATLAS experiment at the CERN particle accelerator, and led the research group during the period in which the particle was discovered. Alongside his research, he lectures and makes the secrets of physics and the universe accessible to the general public.
