The play “Christina Hoflener” — a world premiere at Habima Theatre. Based on the novel by Stefan Zweig, with live music and directed by Hanan Snir.
A grand stage adaptation of one of the most beloved novels of all time by the Austrian-Jewish classic author and journalist Stefan Zweig—Christina Hoflehner—premieres worldwide at Habima Theatre in a remarkable directorial adaptation by one of Israel’s most experienced and respected directors, Hanan Snir.
Christina’s world, that of a young girl from a poor village, is turned upside down when she unexpectedly receives a mysterious invitation to stay at a luxurious Swiss hotel. Incredible wealth, abundance, and enchanting music captivate her and persuade her to assume the fictional identity of a nobleman’s daughter. When the deception is exposed, she is shamefully thrown out of the hotel and sent back to her miserable, impoverished life.
But whoever has once tasted paradise does not let it go so easily… Christina decides to take radical action and change her fate forever.
This poetic and dynamic performance, accompanied by live music from three musicians, traces the delicate boundary between happiness and despair—the fine silk thread between hope and hopelessness.
