A bus tour to the Bible Lands Museum of Natural History and Hurvat Midras will take place on October 16 from Tel Aviv.
In the third week of October, synagogues read the portion “Noah”—the very story of the Flood, the enormous ark, and the animals that Noah collected “two by two.” It’s hard to imagine a better reason to visit the Biblical Museum of Natural History!
We’ll head to an unusual museum near Beit Shemesh, where the Tanakh meets zoology. We’ll see animals, birds, reptiles, and insects mentioned in biblical texts, learn which animals lived in ancient Israel and whom the Tanakh may have been referring to. Some of the museum’s inhabitants—live ones!—can even be held.
We’ll also visit the “Art of the Ark” exhibition and see an entire collection of Noah’s Ark models from different countries around the world.
After the museum, we’ll go for a walk in Hurvat Midras, an archaeological complex in the Judean Lowlands. Ancient caves await us here (those who wish can climb inside!), along with underground passages and traces of a settlement that existed here many centuries ago.
At the end of the program, we’ll stop at a charming place to relax and drink some good wine. And this, incidentally, is also strictly on theme—after the Flood, Noah planted a vineyard.
So, Noah didn’t whine—and neither should you. Let’s pair up and go!
