Andrey Makarevich and Anatoly Vaisman (Bely)

When a great musician and an outstanding artist share the same stage, it is an event. Such an event will be this unusual concert duo: Andrei Makarevich and Anatoly Weissman (Bely) with a special program.

“Improvisation on a Theme” is a conversation with the audience through the language of music and poetry. It is a performance in which a jazz jam session intertwines with poetry. Every poem is a mise-en-scène; every musical theme is a new mood.

The artists will speak about war and peace, light and darkness, and, of course, love. Brodsky and Ravel, Mandelstam and Debussy, Mayakovsky and Gershwin—the audience will witness the birth of an improvised pattern woven from their masterpieces.

Creating this pattern will be artists who have something to say and the ability to surprise.

Andrei Makarevich is a musician, songwriter, writer, and poet, and the long-standing leader of Mashina Vremeni. For many years, he has not only performed rock music but also continually created new formats—jazz, chamber, and many others.

Anatoly Weissman (Bely) is a theater and film actor who shines on the stage of the Gesher Theatre and in international film projects. He has also long been popular as the author and performer of musical-poetic productions.

“Improvisation on a Theme” gives each artist the opportunity to demonstrate his unique talents: Makarevich sets the performance’s musical direction, while Weissman provides precision of intonation and inner dramaturgy.

The musical accompaniment is provided by Alexander Bril, an outstanding saxophonist of international renown; singer Maria Bril; and virtuoso pianist Yevgeny Brakhman.
