In feudal Georgia, a wealthy governor lives with his wife and young son.
During the uprising of the grand dukes in the governor’s duchy, the governor is killed, and his wife flees in panic, abandoning her young son.
A divorced woman, a cook, saves the child and, hardened, sets out with him into the mountains to find shelter there.
At the end of the war, soldiers appear and, by court order, take the child away from the divorced woman. The governor’s wife, the child’s mother, asks to take him into her custody in order to retain possession of her late husband’s property.
The divorced woman and the biological mother are summoned before a judge, who will decide to whom the child belongs.
