The play “The Caucasian Chalk Circle” will take place at Habima Theatre, Tel Aviv. A divorced woman saves a baby during a war and is forced to prove her right to him against the child’s mother before a judge.
During turbulent days of a violent and bloody coup, those in power flee, leaving behind a helpless baby—the son of the deposed governor.
Grusha, a humble kitchen maid, finds the baby and, in a courageous act of kindness, decides to save him and flee to safety.
When the winds of war subside, kindhearted Grusha finds herself facing a new battle when the governor’s wife returns and demands that her son be given back.
Grusha and the mother are summoned to appear before Judge Azdak, who will rule to whom the child belongs—to the one who gave him life, or to the one who saved it?
