“An individual's fate” is not the most popular idea in sociology. Until recently, it interested only historians of the discipline. But “something happened,” and the concept of a community of fate returned to the vocabulary of science after half a century of oblivion. We will discuss how this happened at a lecture by Viktor Vakhshtain, held to mark the publication by our publishing house of his new book, Community of Fate.
