Tours of four exhibitions at the two museums:

At the Negev Museum of Art

The exhibition “Sudden Landscapes” is dedicated to the desert paintings of the artist Zvi Mairovitch (1911–1974), a member of the New Horizons group and one of the fathers of abstraction in Israeli painting. Mairovitch’s desert paintings constitute a body of work considered one of the peaks of his art. The paintings were created in the early 1960s, during the artist’s visits to the desert, mainly in the Mitzpe Ramon area and around the Dead Sea, and inspired by it.

“Avishai Paltak’s Theater of Nature” is Avishai Paltak’s first museum exhibition, offering a comprehensive look at the local landscape in his work as a theatrical, living space. In his generous and stylized paintings, Paltak transforms nature’s poses into human characteristics: gestures, exchanges of glances, and emotional expressions. The blending of the energy of the animal world with the plant kingdom creates an intimate relationship between humans and nature, from which a drama unfolds—something like a “theater of nature.”

The exhibition “The Wishing Well” by Anna Fromchenko is an installation combining video, sound, and sculpture, centered on the image of a well.

The video work, combined with the well stones, creates the illusion of water slowly rising and falling, at a rhythm reminiscent of breathing. The well invites visitors to slow down and linger in the experience.

At the Museum of Islamic and Middle Eastern Cultures

The exhibition “Living Water” explores the unique place of water in Muslim culture—from an everyday raw material essential to existence to a powerful symbol of purity, fertility, abundance, and knowledge. Through 14 rare elite objects, the exhibition offers a broad perspective on the way water weaves together the sacred and the mundane, body and soul, everyday life and court culture, and serves as a starting point for a discussion of identity, space, resources, and shared existence.
